How to Get to Us

*Please note that street parking on Beacon Hill is very limited and rarely available. The best way to get to the area is to park elsewhere and take the T into the city. You will not receive extra time in the cat lounge if you are late or miss your reservation due to parking.

By Public Transportation

If you are taking the subway (the “T”) there are several stops within walking distance of A Sanctuary Cafe.

Red Line

We are located closest to the Charles/MGH stop on the Red Line. The station exits onto Charles street, and the store is located about two and a half blocks south of the station.

Green Line

The Park Street, Boylston, and Arlington stops on the Green Line are all within walking distance of the store.

From Park Street: You will exit onto the eastern edge of Boston Common. Follow the path cutting west through the Commons and exit onto the corner of Beacon Street and Charles Street. Continue north onto Charles Street; the store is located about two and a half blocks up from the entrance to the park. The Park Street station also serves the Red Line.

From Boylston: You will exit onto the southernmost corner of Boston Common. Follow the path cutting north by northwest through the Commons and exit onto the corner of Beacon Street and Charles Street. Continue north onto Charles Street; the store is located about two and a half blocks up from the entrance to the park.

From Arlington Station: You will exit at the southernmost corner of the Public Garden. Walk diagonally through the garden in a northeasterly direction around the western edge of the pond until you reach the corner of Beacon and Charles Streets. Continue north onto Charles Street; the store is located about two and a half blocks north of the entrance to the park.

Blue Line

The store is accessible via the Blue Line from the Government Center station (which also serves the Green Line). Exit the station, heading southwest toward Court Street. Immediately take the crosswalk onto Tremont Street. Follow Tremont Street south until you reach Beacon Street. Turn onto Beacon Street, heading west along the northern edge of Boston Common until you reach Charles Street. Continue north onto Charles Street; the store is located about two and a half blocks up from the entrance to the park.

Orange Line

Deboard the train at Downtown Crossing and follow the signs to the Green Line—this will take you through the Winter Street concourse that connects Downtown Crossing and Park Street. Exit via the Park Street station onto the eastern edge of Boston Common. Follow the path cutting west through the Commons and exit onto the corner of Beacon Street and Charles Street. Continue north onto Charles Street; the store is located about two and a half blocks up from the entrance to the park. The Park Street station also serves the Red Line.

By Car

From I-93 (southbound): Merge onto I-93 S and take Exit 18 onto MA-3 N. Use the left lane to exit toward Government Center/Kendall Square. Take a slight right onto Charles Street.

From the Massachusetts Turnpike (via Storrow Drive): Take Exit 131 towards Cambridge/Cambridge St. and follow the signs to Downtown Boston/Storrow Drive. Continue straight on Storrow Drive until you reach the intersection of Charles Street and Cambridge Street (near the Charles/MGH Red Line station). Turn right onto Charles St.

From Cambridge/Somerville: Take the Longfellow Bridge from Memorial Drive or Broadway/Main St. to cross the Charles River. Turn right onto Charles Street at the intersection.

Parking

Metered parking spaces are available in Beacon Hill on Beacon, Cambridge, and Charles Streets from 8am to 8pm. Vehicles may only park in metered spaces for up to two hours. Street parking is free and unlimited on Sundays.

There are a couple of parking garages located along the perimeter of Beacon Hill. Center Plaza Garage has entrances on Somerset Street and Cambridge/Tremont Streets. The entrance to the Boston Common Garage is on Charles Street, halfway along the western perimeter of the Commons.

ADA-Compliance

We are proud to be fully ADA compliant! All of our corridors are at least 36” wide with turning spaces of at least 60” and we are fitted with the Garaventa Opal lift for travel between levels.
